Watches of World Leaders - Part 2

comment

Watches of World Leaders part 2 – Previously, I published a blog post about the watches of 16 world leaders 2022. Now, let’s continue to identify watches from other world leaders.

Jair Bolsonaro – President of Brazil

After figuring out his sporty watch, I concluded that President Bolsonaro is a person of simple taste. Despite his status of being a President, he chose to wear a super simple and affordable watch: Aqua GP477. It is not a Casio, as many people said. Well, visually, they are very similar watches because the Aqua is a clear copy/inspiration of the Casio.

He only bought the watch from a street vendor in Rio for about $5!

He seems to love the watch because we can see him wear it in a campaign, in interviews for TV channels, or even at his house.

He is a truly simple President!

Ali Bongo Ondimba – President of Gabon

Mr. Ondimba seems to be a fan of Rolex Daytona. His Daytona is one of my favourite Daytonas ever! It is the beautiful Rolex Daytona Platinum Ice Blue. In the picture he was seen wearing the watch during the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations final football match between Egypt and Cameroon in Libreville.

The market price in July 2022 is ~$160,000.

Cyril Ramaphosa – President of South Africa

Southafrican President since 2018, Cyril Ramaphosa, has been spotted wearing an Apple Watch Series 3 since day first at work. The watch was released in September 2013. It features a heart-rate monitor, GPS chip, etc.

Retail price (38mm): $199
Retail price (42mm): $229

His watch is much more affordable than his predecessor, Jacob Zuma. Zuma owns a Patek Philippe Grand Complications and a Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar.

Ferdinand Marcos Jr. – President of the Philippines

Replacing Duterte, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. sworned in as Philippines President in June 2022. During his inauguration and daily work activities, his wrist caught everyone’s attention because of his beautiful watch, a rose gold Patek Philippe Nautilus Chronograph 5980R-001.

Currently, in August 2022, it sells on the secondary market for about $170,000.

Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa – King of Malaysia

Okay this one actually surprised me a lot. The 16th King of Malaysia, Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa, was seen wearing a Hublot Classic Fusion with a rose gold bezel and a black dial with rose gold skeleton hands. It retails for $20,500.

I actually expected him to wear a Patek Philippe watch.

Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud – King of Saudi Arabia

King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Chopard Imperiale 388532-3002

Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, King of Saudi Arabia since 2015, was seen very often wearing the Chopard Imperiale 388532-3002. His watch features polished stainless steel case and lugs, two-tiered dial (outer with a flat silvered finish, while center has a silvered finish with an engraved embroidered pattern), and a date window at 3 o’clock.

Retail price: $6,510.

Mohammed VI – King of Morocco

Take a bow to the Moroccon King with his beautiful watch. The 40.5mm fully diamond set Patek Philippe Nautilus in 18K white gold with a factory diamond case and bracelet. The watch is set with 893 diamonds weighing approximately 4.468 carats and 182 baguette-cut diamonds weighing 15.46.

Retail price: $1,250,000.

Narendra Modi – Prime Minister of India

Narendra Modi with Apple Watch Series 1

Narendra Modi has been very much in the news because of his style and fashion. His watch collection has been one of the recent attractions in the public. His favourite watch brand is Movado. However, he was also recently spotted wearing an Apple Watch Series 1, which costs less than his Movado, but it is high tech watch.

Pedro Sanchez – President of Spain

Longines Presence is a watch can be seen on President Sanchez most of the time. I have got some information that he actually didn’t use it in public until he became president in 2018.

Retail price: €800.

Sergio Mattarella – President of Italy

Sergio Mattarella with Patek Philippe Ellipse 3738/100J-012

Sergio Mattarella with Patek Philippe Ellipse 3738/100J-012

President of Italy since 2015, Sergio Mattarella, leads the pack wearing a lovely Patek Philippe Ellipse Reference 3738. It’s a vintage jewel made of 18k gold with a dial that appears to match the Italian football team’s uniform’s precise shade of blue.

Price: €8,000.

Abdel Fattah El Sisi – President of Egypt

Abdel Fattah El Sisi with Omega Speedmaster 311.30.42.30.01.005

The sixth and current President of Egypt since 2014, Abdel Fattah El Sisi, apparently loves Omega Speedmaster ‘Moonwatch’ as this watch has been seen often on his wrist. Good choice!

The Moonwatch features a black dial covered by a hesalite crystal and graced by a small seconds sub-dial, 30-minute recorder and 12-hour recorder along with a central chronograph hand. The black bezel, with its tachymetric scale, is mounted on a 42 mm stainless steel case and presented on a matching bracelet.

Retail price: $5,350

Carl Gustaf XVI – King of Sweden

King Carl Gustaf XVI of Sweden with Hublot MDM Geneve 14011002

King Carl Gustav XVI of Sweden owns a watch that is quite surprising for me. I expected him to wear a Rolex or Audemars Piguet. Surprisingly, as we can see in the picture, his watch is the vintage two-tone 32mm Hublot MDM Geneve in steel and gold. It features a black dial with a quartz movement.

Retail price: $4,000.

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador – President of Mexico

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has been the 65th President of Mexico since December 2018. At work, he was seen wearing a watch what appears to be an IWC Pilot Mark VVIII Steel IW327009. The watch comes with a stainless steel case, a black dial, Arabic numeral hour markers, white hands, and a date window at 3 o’clock.

Retail price: €4,700

Boris Johnson – Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, who announced his pending resignation in July 2022 and will remain until his successor is elected, doesn’t seem to be a person who is into expensive watches. His 34mm Pulsar by Seiko with a black leather strap and a quartz movement costs only about $55. Similar to the Brazilian president, his watch is also affordable.

Willem-Alexander – King of the Netherlands

King Willem-Alexander with Jaeger Le Coultre

King Willem-Alexander with Jaeger Le Coultre

Willem-Alexander, who became the king of the country succeeding his mother in 2013, has been spotted wearing watches. It seems he has three nice watches. One of them is what we see in the picture: yellow gold Jaeger Le Coultre Master Control Calendar Moonphase 1552520, featuring a triple calendar with an additional moon phase complication.

Market price: ~$20,000.

Harald V – King of Norway

King Harald V with Rolex Pepsi 1675

King Harald V with Rolex Pepsi 1675

King Harald V of Norway has been seen wearing the vintage Rolex GMT-Master II Pepsi 1675 his whole life. The photo shows that the Pepsi bezel has obviously faded and turned into a “ghost” dial. It is not surprising since he has worn the watch over the past half-century.

Market price: ~$18,000.

The watch in that photograph of Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, President of Mexico is not a IWC Pilot Mark VVIII Steel IW327009.
It is actually a Momentum Atlas 38mm.
The Momentum Atlas 38mm can be seen here: https://momentumwatch.com/products/atlas-38mm-black?variant=41118594662578
