1 thought on “Cinematic Timepieces: Show-stopping Watches in Movies”
Supes Critic
Here’s an observation: almost invariably, action movie heroes wear watches on rubber/leather straps. The only big exception is James Bond, but only because he also does action scenes in a tuxedo and drives exotic super cars, so he doesn’t really count. Bracelet watches on the other hand are mainly (but not invariably) worn by rich well-dressed characters.
I think that when capturing a particular sporty aesthetic, not only is the type of watch (simple, divers, chronograph, GMT) important but also whether it’s worn on a strap or a bracelet. The same watch, eg. a Speedmaster Moonwatch, can be dressed with a strap for sporty occasions and then switched to a bracelet for more formal events. On the other hand, some watches should be “always” worn on a strap, or always worn on a bracelet because they are too sporty or fancy respectively to work the other way.
