We all know that a major football event is really happening at the moment. People around the globe are talking about the World Cup 2022 in Doha, Qatar. The event almost reach the end which that means the match is getting hotter!

The match of Croatia against Japan on Monday, 5 December was really interesting actually. I mean, the Japan national team gave us a surprise by defeating Germany and Spain. Furthermore, the Japanese fans also has watched attention by cleaning the station voluntarily after some matches. No wonder, that people, or at least in my circle, were supporting Japan. However, in the end of the day, Croatia won :D

So, that match just inspired me to curate 10 watches in the captain of the Croatia national football team, Luka Modric. He has been spotted wearing different watches in the past years. 

Modric is such a warm and generous person. After he was named as the winner of Ballon d'Or 2018, he bought himself a Rolex. AND also to everyone else. He bought 25 Daytona watches in red gold for the entire Real Madrid squad. However, it wasn't limited to the athletes. It was for the assistant coach, the doctor, the physical therapist, and the bus driver. It was for everyone!

Let's start with his two timepieces seen recently during the hyped football event - FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. 

The first one is the Rolex Datejust 126300 featuring a mint dial with a smooth bezel, and a jubilee bracelet. The 41 mm watch was introduced earlier in 2022 at the Watches and Wonders in Geneva.

Retail price: $8,250.

Market price: ~$17,500.

Another watch seen on his wrist during the global event, during a press conference to be precise, was the Patek Philippe Nautilus Annual Calendar 5726/1A. 

The watch features an Annual Calendar and moon-phase display. It has a blue dial inspired from the dial color of the original nautilus model of 1976.

Horizontal embossing and subtle grading from blue to black around the dial create a powerful yet refined aesthetic that perfectly complements the metal's sheen.

Market price (Nov 2022): ~$160,000.

His next watch seen on his wrist is one of my favorite watches: the Omega Speedmaster 50th Anniversary Silver Snoopy Award.

The timepiece is presented on a blue nylon fabric strap. It features a silver dial with blue PVD angle-shaped hour markers and hands, as well as an embossed silver Snoopy medallion on the blue subdial at 9 o’clock. The animated cartoon character is shown on a magical hand, which rotates when the chronograph function is used.

The “Silver Snoopy Award” was created by astronauts to honor people and organizations who made major contributions to “the accomplishment of human space flight programs.” Snoopy was selected as the mascot of NASA’s safety policy in 1968. When Charles M. Schulz began drawing comic strips picturing the iconic dog figure on the moon in the 1960s, Snoopy became NASA astronauts’ mascot.

Omega got the prize in 1970 because of its contributions to space research. This was particularly the Speedmaster’s crucial assistance during the Apollo 13 rescue mission.

The captain of the Croatian national team and a player for Real Madrid, was seen wearing a 40mm Rolex GMT-Master II "Pepsi" with a jubilee bracelet and a black dial, reference 126710BLRO.

This watch has a "retail price" of "only" $12,300, but because it is one of the most sought-fter watches on the market, the market price is frequently over $22,000.

Another GMT-Master II watch in his collection is the Rolex Batman. This watch is equipped with a bidirectional rotatable bezel and a 24-hour graduated two-color Cerachrom insert in black and blue ceramic. It’s fitted on an oyster bracelet.

The GMT-Master is easily one of the planet's most iconic and desirable watches. It’s so popular that its different variants have received widely recognized and slightly wacky nicknames from the watch community.

Singer John Mayer also has this exact watch.

The Croatian footballer has been seen very often with different Rolex models. Not only GMT-Master II watches are in his possession, but also the Daytona models. 

In this picture, we can see a Rolex Daytona 116519 with a Ghost Dial on his wrist. The watch comes in 18k white gold with steel and black dial and an oysterflex bracelet, featuring a black cerachrom bezel with a tachymetric scale. 

Market price (Dec 2022): ~$45,000.

Like Neymar Jr, Luka also has a black dial Rolex Daytona in 18k yellow gold with a reference number 116508-0004.

The 40mm yellow gold Daytona features a bezel with an engraved tachymetric scale with three counters and pushers since the model was originally designed to be the perfect timing tool for endurance racing drivers.

Market price: ~$60,000.

Next is the stainless steel Patek Philippe Aquanaut Chronograph 5968A seen on his wrist. 

This watch features the classic Aquanaut’s square pattern in dark grey with orange on both the second's hand and the sub-counter. The timepiece is matched with a black strap.

Market price (Dec 2022): ~$155,000. 

He also has another watch that is similar to the previous one - Patek Philippe Aquanaut Chronograph 5968A, but this one is matched with an orange strap.

The recent Ballon d'Or 2022 winner, Karim Benzema, has also been seen wearing this wristwatch.

Last but not least, he also has the stunning Patek Philippe Nautilus Perpetual Calendar 5740G in white gold. 

Introduced as the first grand complication in the Nautilus collection, it features a blue sunburst dial with gold-applied hour markers and luminescent coating. 

Prince Joaan of Qatar, Messi, Jay Z, and some other celebrities also has this watch in their watch collection.
